Terms of Use

Version: 2026-06-24

By creating a Statios account or signing in, you accept these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy.

The short version. Statios requires an account, so using it means accepting these terms. Your datasets never leave your device: Statios analyses them locally, and we never receive, upload, or store them. While you use Statios we collect some usage and diagnostic information (which features you use, timings, error codes, but never your data) to operate, secure, and improve the product. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

1. Who we are, and accepting these terms

Statios ("Statios", "we", "us") is a statistical-analysis application operated from Portugal. You can reach us at hello@statios.ai for general questions and privacy@statios.ai for data protection.

Using Statios requires an account. Both the web app and the installed desktop build sign you in before you can use them, so when you create an account or sign in (at statios.ai, in the web app, or in a desktop build) you agree to these Terms of Use and to the Privacy Policy. There is no way to use Statios without an account, which means there is no way to use it without accepting these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use Statios.

2. What Statios is

Statios is a statistical-analysis application, and you need an account to use it. The statistics engine itself runs on your device (compiled to WebAssembly in the browser, or natively in the desktop build), so your data is analysed locally even though an account is required to open the app. The built-in Statios AI assistant is an optional extra and is metered in usage credits.

3. Your account

You need an account to use Statios. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Please give us accurate information, and note that you must be at least 16 years old, or older if the law that applies to you sets a higher minimum age.

4. Plans, AI usage, and fair use

The statistics workbench is available on the Free plan. The AI assistant is metered in usage credits up to your plan's allowance; the current allowances, tiers, and limits are shown in the app and may change over time. A paid plan gives you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive right to use the covered features for the seats and the period you paid for. Reselling, sublicensing, or sharing license keys or accounts is not allowed and may cost you your access.

5. Acceptable use

Please do not use Statios unlawfully or to process data you have no right to process. Please do not try to extract, resell, or get around the AI assistant's metering, or use it to build a competing product. And please do not probe, overload, or interfere with our infrastructure, or upload content that is unlawful or infringing.

6. Your data, and your responsibilities

Statios analyses your data on your device, and we do not upload or keep your datasets, results, or scripts (the Privacy Policy has the detail). That means you remain responsible for backing up your own data, for having the right to process the data you analyse, and for following the laws and rules that apply to you (for example GDPR or HIPAA, and your own institution's policies). When you use the AI assistant, only schema and aggregate context is sent to our relay, never your raw data rows, and this is enforced as described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Usage and diagnostic data

To operate, secure, debug, and improve Statios, the service collects usage and diagnostic information, described in detail in the Privacy Policy, section 5. This information is technical and pseudonymous. It never includes your datasets, cell values, variable values, analysis results, or the text of your AI prompts. Because an account is required to use Statios, this information is collected for all use of the product, and collecting it is a necessary part of running the service. By using Statios you acknowledge this. If you would rather it was not collected, the option open to you is not to use Statios.

8. AI output is not professional advice

AI responses and suggestions can be incomplete or wrong, and a statistical result depends on assumptions that may not hold for your data. Statios is a tool, not a replacement for professional or statistical judgement. Please check any result, method, or recommendation before you rely on it. We do not warrant that a given analysis is appropriate for your data or your research question.

9. Intellectual property

We and our licensors own Statios, including its software, branding, and content. The exception is open-source components, which stay under their own licenses. You keep all rights in your own data and in the documents you create. Using Statios does not give you any rights in our trademarks.

10. No warranty

Statios is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. None of this removes any liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, including your mandatory consumer rights.

11. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of Statios or your inability to use it. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

12. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Statios and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or end your access if you materially break these terms, especially sections 4 and 5. If your access ends, your right to use Statios ends with it. Anything held on your own device stays yours and is unaffected; you can remove it by clearing your browser site data or deleting the local files.

13. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. When a change is material we will update the version and date above and ask you to review and re-accept before you carry on using Statios. Carrying on after a minor change counts as accepting it.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Portugal, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and they do not take away the mandatory consumer-protection rights of the country you live in. The courts of Portugal have jurisdiction, except where you have a mandatory right to bring a case in your own country.

15. Contact

If you have a question about these terms, email hello@statios.ai.
